A goal might be neccesary, but it is not sufficient - it can not be about the goal if winner and loser have the same goal. Setting a goal is a once and done thing - to accomplish it you need to form and focus on a system that leads you to the goal and beyond. It's not about not being ambitious, but rather about focusing your ambition on something else. Goals are temporary, but call it habits, virtues, values or systems - they last. The best thing to do with a goal is "put it on a shelf"(James Clear).
